So, the “good” cardinal is bringing out the old populate or perish line eh?

What the fuck?

We as a race (and by that I mean humanity, because I’m too mixed blood to actually belong to one racial group) have only one real problem to deal with in the 21st century. Every other major issue, whether it is rising fuel costs or global warming, is just a symptom of the one big issue.

Overpopulation.

There are too many people on this planet. Way too many people.

The choice to populate or perish is a false dichotomy, as populating will definitely lead to perishing at a much quicker rate.

Maybe if we cut down by half, we’d have a chance…. but only a slim chance.

Of course the best solution is a little extreme…. and by a little extreme I mean it’d be called genocide by most, if not all.

If 10% of people are using 80% of the resources, and the 10% have better weapons and tactics…. the easy option is to cut down the population to the 10%.

That probably won’t happen….

But anyway, back to counting number Pell, he obviously has his reasons for pushing this idea.

Firstly, he wants his cult to win. The only countries who have what could be seen as a responsible birth rate are those of a historically Christian background. Whereas the main opposition (that’d be the muslims and hindus) have some of the highest birth rates.

Pell knows that if all the Christians stop having babies, his church will fall apart, and even at replacement birthrates the attrition that comes from education is already destroying church memberships.

Secondly, his cult opposes all the ways of controlling the birthrate. If he didn’t push this line, then Pope Babyeater XVI might send out the stormtroopers.

Of course the best way to make sure that the Catholics breed is to keep telling them that birth control is sinful. Unlike any prohibition against sex, which is easily defeated by normal hormonal urges, it will actually be followed. The good catholics will still have sex, they’ll just have unsafe sex – which leads to more good catholic babies.

World Youth Day itself is in fact a very good way to ensure that this cycle continues…. all those youngsters in close quarters leads to…. fucking catholics (in the literal sense, not in the angry curse sense that most of us have been using it all week)

I’m pretty sure I understand those, at least in the sheltered way that a westerner can.

I’m also pretty sure that I cried out for that healing every day when I was a believer.

That healing never came.

In fact, I only got worse.

Take my physical health…. I was quite slim when I gave my life to Jeeeeeeezus. By the time I’d left I’d ballooned out to the size of a short Zeppelin.

As for my mental health…. I’m sure earlier entries on this blog can attest to how depressed I got near the end of my Christian experience. I was tempted many times when riding my motorbike to just “slip” and fall under the wheels of a big rig.

Of course, there is also the issue that those in less developed countries (and some in the developed countries) are suffering on a whole other level. My various emotional disturbances are nothing compared to having no access to clean water, or food, or shelter.

The millions of dollars of taxpayer money alone spent on WYD could have had a great impact on the lives of many who are suffering. When you add all the money contributed by the church and pilgirms…. That would have been much more Christ-like…. Much more in line with:

“struggling against what St Paul calls ‘the flesh’, our fat relentless egos, old-fashioned selfishness”

Not that I am any better…. but I don’t claim to be.

Of course, there is also the suffering that the catholic church brings to the world…. the AIDS epidemic in africa…. everything that Mother Theresa did…. Child molestation and protection of predators…. Fascism….

But all that stuff is obvious.

“And the young ones, I give a gentle reminder that in your enthusiasm and excitement, you do not forget to listen and pray.”

To bring us back to the main point…. you can listen and pray all you want….

I spent five years doing these things, and was one of those who was in the top tier when it came to my dedication to these matters. My attendance at prayer meetings was quite outstanding, not to mention all my personal prayer antics.

Yet…. in all that time nothing happened….

Mountains didn’t move….
Nations didn’t change….

All that crying out is useless when the one you are crying out to doesn’t exist.

Secondly, there is a little thing going on in sydney called World Youth Day. Pope Babyeater XVI, is in full attendance, and I’m sure he’d send his nazi stormtoopers unexepected inquisition after me if I was famous.
